IV has had its first big success this year and we should all be proud of what we can all do. We worked hard and left no stone unturned to get this relief for our members. During the last few days there has been some movement on the National Defense Authorization Act and work on DREAM and SKIL provisions. While we were fully focused on the 485 relief, we did not lose sight of the developments. We have built a positive momentum and have been getting positive signals from key lawmakers. It is now upto us how we can seize the opportunity and focus on the lobbying efforts on legislative front. After seeing the overwhelming support of our members we are also encouraged to move ahead with full steam and explore the possibility of our provisions in the upcoming legislative activities. We also need to explore any other future movement on legislative front. Please join us in this struggle by signing up for $50 or more per month recurring contributions. The failure of CIR and the political climate against immigration are making the task difficult but not impossible.

Pls excse my noob-ness, i have read all the pages of this thread but cudnt find a precise answer.
I am in the Rn program, and wud be graduating in may08, hopefylly pass nclex and start OPT by june08. i can then start with my visa screen, and I140 as these are not retrogressed, but if retrogression continues and i am not able to file I485, do i still get an EAD. my guess is 'not' but just trying to confirm as i wud have to plan to continue with studies after 1 yr of OPT.
and btw thanks for tons of usefull info!

1. Another reply was If we use All permitted unsed visa, Where would we be in terms of EB visa. His response was Probably china/India Second category will be clear.
2. According to Him 65% of visa has been used for this year. less amount of visa remain now for this year. We shouldn't expect miracle for this year at least.

Has anybody called the USCIS customer service number regarding AP ?
If we have a emergency reason to travel out of the country, can we call the customer service and request expedited processing of AP ?

Guys,
This is one of the most serious issue we are facing in current time. Lay offs are happening left and right and on top of that employers learned that AC21 is giving troubles, they started squeezing more (I myself is partially victim of that).
We need sincere efforts sending emails to ombudsman. This will not take more than 5 minutes as NK2006 put efforts on even giving you the email template.
I sincerely urge everyone to send emails to addresses NK2006 mentioned above and even request your collegues, spouse to do so. We need volume to show our presence.
One more request, please take one more minute and make sure that you post here that you sent emails. This will give us real picture and give others motivation too!

Ah, so you are looking to purchase in Hyd. Here is the latest, if you already don't know.
There is a talk about HMDA which is an agency to overlook a project extending the Hyderabad to Bhongir in the East and to Medak in the west.
There will be strict implementation of plans for constructing new houses.
Realtors have already started marketing this and extracting high prices.
If you do have time to research, you can purchase land for cheap (around 3-4 thousand rupees per sql yard) in the outskirts.

AILA (http://www.aila.org/) has an analysis of the immigration bill in an article "Top 5 Concerns Regarding Employment-Based Immigration in S. 1348":

It is a letter by your I-485 attorney to USCIS mentioning your pending I-485 application (receipt numbers, filed where, including everyone part of the application), about your company securing I-140 approval under EB2 category for you and requesting to interfile this I-140 with pending I-485 and approval based on case is being current now (mentioning priority date). Copy of the I-140 approval notice (EB2) should be attached.
Some attorneys do attach I-485 receipt copies too. Also, your attorney may ask you to sign on the G-28 form that he/she is representing your case.

Plus, think about it this way, without this current, you won't be able to file your 485 anyway till next year.

If not this bus then the next bus . No use raising your blood pressure for this . Attorneys and the media have a habit of scaring people unnecessarily . I'd look at it a different way. Without USCIS u and I wudn't have made it to the US. When u came to the US, u implicitly agreed upon the rules and regulations of USCIS. When u applied for ur GC, u very well knew what USCIS is and how they function.They have an immigration system which has been going on for several years now and all the immigration aspirants have played by their rules and never questioned how it worked though their cases were delayed for whatever reason. Why shud the USCIS even entertain somebody questioning them now? They'll simply say...Who are u to ask? We have been functioning like this for ages now. If u dont like it, just say good bye...but this is how we function.
That is what every government wishes their citizens would do--just accept like obedient little sheep. I say that one should choose not to give them a free pass. Otherwise they'll continue to walk all over you. Citizen or not, being a sheep is not an option. Besides, we did not move to a dictatorship. We moved to a democracy--or at least it is trumpeted as such. Let them walk the walk.

While IV is a big organization with 20K+ members, I haven't seen the transparency, All I have seen is tons of threads being created requesting members to donate money, However Is there any transparency in the way the money is being spent the answer is a Big NO. I have seen someone posting threads on IV tax filings (some disgruntled member for sure ) and those getting deleted within few hours....
There was also thread on the need to pass on the immigration torch to the next generation to take it further...and this is a good start if the core committee can be elected perhaps once in 2 yrs or something and any core team member wanting to re-election goes back and compete with someone who feels they can do a better job.
Without fresh blood and fresh thinking the organization will fail to attract new members.
